Meet The Authors
Joanne Buckheit
Joanne Buckheit is an educator, school leader, and co-author of Student Led Rounds: Democracy in Action. Across 38 years in education, she served for 20 years as principal of the Michael J. Petrides School, a 1,400-student PreK–12 school on Staten Island. Joanne helped originate Student-Led Instructional Rounds in 2017, creating a protected process for students and educators to study learning together. She dedicates her work to building trusting school communities where student insight strengthens teaching, leadership, and meaningful improvement.
Paul J. Bloomberg, Ed.D.
Paul Bloomberg is a Queer educator, best-selling author, and co-founder of The Core Collaborative. A former principal and district leader, he has co-authored multiple books on learner-centered assessment and collaborative inquiry. Paul dedicates his work to advancing learner agency and building schools as democratic communities where every student is seen, heard, and empowered to lead with clarity and purpose.
Carly Castro
Carly Castro is a student author of Student Led Rounds: Democracy in Action. Her authorship brings student perspective into the book's development and public identity, reinforcing its central belief that students should be partners in improving schools, not simply respondents to adult questions.
